European Flying Disc Federation (EFDF) formally institutionalized at founding assembly in Lecco, Italy

The European Flying Disc Federation (EFDF) is pleased to announce that its institutional and founding assembly as the Continental Association of the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) for Europe was held on Wednesday, 23 July 2014, in the city of Lecco, Lombardy, Italy, on the occasion of the 2014 WFDF World Junior Ultimate Championships (WJUC).

EFDF´s aim is to provide a forum for all European Flying Disc sports and to represent these towards the European public-sector and sports institutions, in particular the European Olympic Committees (EOC) and the institutions of the European Union.

Eight European member associations of WFDF attended this meeting: Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, France, Italy, Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland. In total EFDF counts 32 member associations in 31 countries.

The assembly elected their first statutory Executive Committee and Board of Directors:

  • Thomas Griesbaum (GER) - President
  • Andre Kruse (GER) - Vice President
  • Amandine Constant (FRA) – Secretary
  • Paul Eriksson (SWE) – Treasurer
  • Jana Vejmelkova (CZE) - at-Large Board Member.

The Board of Directors is completed by the ex-officio members representing the Flying Disc sports in Europe as at-Large Board members:

  • Andrea Furlan (AUT) for the European Ultimate Federation (EUF)
  • Pedro Vargas (POR) for the Beach Ultimate Lovers Aassociation (BULA-Europe
  • Paul Francz (SUI) for the European Disc Golf Federation (EDGF)

"With the institutionalization of EFDF all Flying Disc sports have taken a further important step to develop in Europe. We are very proud to contribute now formally the European part to WFDF´s efforts to receive the permanent IOC recognition“, commented EFDF President Thomas Griesbaum.

From August 3rd to 8th the European Ultimate Champions under 17 and under 20 were held in Frankfurt a.M., Germany.

While teams from the hosting nation Germany became European Ultimate Champions in both open divisions (u20 & u17) the ladies´ titles were awarded to Austria (Women U20) and the Netherlands (Girls U17).

While on Sunday 2nd of August 2015 the IOC at its 128th session granted the full recognition to WFDF, in Copenhagen the European Ultimate Championship 2015 came to a successful end.

Winning 2 gold (Mixed & Open) and 2 bronze medals Great Britain became the most successful nation 2015. Also Finland (Women), Denkmark (Open Masters) and Germany (Women's Masters) came off victorious.

WFDF is pleased to announce the national teams qualifying for the Ultimate event in the 2017 IWGA World Games which will be held in the city of Wroclaw (POL) from 20 to 30 July 2017. Per the WFDF qualification system, Australia, Canada, Colombia, Japan, Poland, and the USA will participate in the IWGA Flying Disc Championship.  WFDF’s qualification process is based on results across the mixed, mens’ and womens’ championships during the WFDF 2016 World Ultimate and Guts Championships in London with the five top combined results together with the automatic host country bid. WFDF is pleased to announce the results of the 2016 elections to its Athletes` Commission, where John McNaughton (AUS), Alison Smith (GBR) and Felix Angue (PHI) were chosen out of a field of five candidates.  The election voters were the athletes participating in the WFDF 2016 World Ultimate and Guts Championships that was concluded on Saturday 26 June in London.  The three were chosen to serve on the Athletes’ Commission for a term running from 2016 to 2020.

The WFDF 2016 World Ultimate and Guts Championship was concluded with three featured gold medal games on Saturday 26 June at the Allianz Park stadium in London. The WFDF 2016 World Ultimate and Guts Championship is prepared for the final gold medal rounds today at the Allianz Park stadium in London, home of Rugby's reigning Premiership Champions, Saracens RFC. Championship finals will be held in the mixed gender, women’s, and men’s divisions, capping the weeklong event that began Sunday 19 June. The WFDF 2016 World Ultimate and Guts Championship reached the quarterfinal stage of the event beginning today, with the top seeds in each division of play remaining largely intact. The preliminary and play-off rounds of the WUGC 2016 are being held at the University College London (UCL) Sports Ground in London Colney. The tournament organizing committee, headed by UK Ultimate CEO Simon Hill and Tournament Director Jon Pugh, set up 27 high-quality grass competition pitches that cover a total area of 143 acres. PDGA Europe has granted Finland the right to host the next edition of the European Disc Golf Championships in 2016. The event will take place in Oulu. “The PDGA Europe EDGC sub committee was given the arduous task of choosing the best of three bids.
