European Flying Disc Federation (EFDF) formally institutionalized at founding assembly in Lecco, Italy

The European Flying Disc Federation (EFDF) is pleased to announce that its institutional and founding assembly as the Continental Association of the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) for Europe was held on Wednesday, 23 July 2014, in the city of Lecco, Lombardy, Italy, on the occasion of the 2014 WFDF World Junior Ultimate Championships (WJUC).

EFDF´s aim is to provide a forum for all European Flying Disc sports and to represent these towards the European public-sector and sports institutions, in particular the European Olympic Committees (EOC) and the institutions of the European Union.

Eight European member associations of WFDF attended this meeting: Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, France, Italy, Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland. In total EFDF counts 32 member associations in 31 countries.

The assembly elected their first statutory Executive Committee and Board of Directors:

  • Thomas Griesbaum (GER) - President
  • Andre Kruse (GER) - Vice President
  • Amandine Constant (FRA) – Secretary
  • Paul Eriksson (SWE) – Treasurer
  • Jana Vejmelkova (CZE) - at-Large Board Member.

The Board of Directors is completed by the ex-officio members representing the Flying Disc sports in Europe as at-Large Board members:

  • Andrea Furlan (AUT) for the European Ultimate Federation (EUF)
  • Pedro Vargas (POR) for the Beach Ultimate Lovers Aassociation (BULA-Europe
  • Paul Francz (SUI) for the European Disc Golf Federation (EDGF)

From August 3rd to 8th the European Ultimate Champions under 17 and under 20 were held in Frankfurt a.M., Germany.

While teams from the hosting nation Germany became European Ultimate Champions in both open divisions (u20 & u17) the ladies´ titles were awarded to Austria (Women U20) and the Netherlands (Girls U17).

While on Sunday 2nd of August 2015 the IOC at its 128th session granted the full recognition to WFDF, in Copenhagen the European Ultimate Championship 2015 came to a successful end.

Winning 2 gold (Mixed & Open) and 2 bronze medals Great Britain became the most successful nation 2015. Also Finland (Women), Denkmark (Open Masters) and Germany (Women's Masters) came off victorious.

More than 20 games to be live-streamed online over the weeklong event The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is pleased to announce that the WFDF 2016 World Ultimate and Guts Championships from London will be presented on the leading online platform Select round-robin, quarterfinal, semifinal, and final competitions will be presented June 19 -25, featuring multi-camera coverage, live commentary, and high-quality graphics. In addition, will archive the competitions online through April, 2017.
In addition to the telecast, more than 20 games will be live-streamed online over the weeklong event The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is pleased to announce that the WFDF 2016 World Ultimate Championships from London will air on CBS Sports Network. The two-hour program will air twice across North America on Saturday, June 25 (same day delay) and will feature the Mixed Gender Finals competition and include highlights of the Men’s and Women’s Finals, in addition to footage from preliminary rounds of play and features.
The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is pleased to announce that the WFDF 2017 World Championships of Beach Ultimate, in association with BULA (WCBU 2017) will be held at Plage de la Grande Conche in Royan, France from Sunday, 18 June to Saturday, 24 June 2017. The French Flying Disc Federation (FFDF) will oversee the Tournament Organizing Committee made up of an experienced team from the local regional league “Flying Disc Poitou Charentes,” members of the FFDF, and local France Sport sponsors and partners.
WFDF is pleased to announce that it has awarded a total of US$5,000 in development grants to be used to create and fortify Beach Ultimate leagues with six projects on four continents. WFDF had put out a call for applications in November 2015 for the 2016 Beach Ultimate development grant program with a focus on funding projects brought by member associations or individuals to start or grow local Beach Ultimate leagues.
The World Flying Disc Federation (“WFDF”) is pleased to announce that its Board of Directors has appointed Charlie Mead of the United Kingdom as new WFDF Disc Golf Committee chair and Board member.  The appointment comes as a replacement for outgoing Disc Golf Committee chair Michael Downes who stepped down from the position after the Professional Disc Golf Association (“PDGA”) terminated its memorandum of understanding and membership with WFDF effective 29 February 2016.

PDGA Europe has granted Finland the right to host the next edition of the European Disc Golf Championships in 2016. The event will take place in Oulu. “The PDGA Europe EDGC sub committee was given the arduous task of choosing the best of three bids.
