Call for Manifestos: The European Ultimate Federation!
Dear European Ultimate Players,
Have you ever wanted to help build the European Ultimate scene to help make it one of the best in the world? Are you keen to build grass-roots Ultimate in Europe? Or do you have other ideas on how to make Ultimate in Europe just that little bit better?
Then now is the time for you to put your hands up and run for positions on the new European Ultimate Federation! The current EFDF (European Flying Disc Federation) is asking for Ultimate Players in Europe to submit manifestos to run for positions in this new group.
This is a call for Manifestos for anyone wanting to run for the following positions:
Chairperson - Oversees the smooth running of the organisation and is to ensure that the EUF is run in a professional and spirited manner. This Chairperson is also to sit on the EFDF with Chairpersons of other Disc sports (such as Disc Golf, Freestyle, etc) in Europe to maintain coordinated efforts.
Treasurer - In charge of keeping the official EUF accounts. Preferably this person will have a professional background in this field, or else be an ex-treasurer from a National Flying Disc or Ultimate Federation. In the first year running, this person may be asked to help in an advisory role with the EFDF as well.
Womens / Open / Mixed / Juniors / Masters Chairpersons - A call for manifestos will also be made for individuals wanting to run as chairperson for a subcommittee, be it Womens, Open, Mixed, Juniors, or Masters. These chairpersons will be in charge of recruiting at least 2 more members to form their respective subcommittee.
If you have any questions at all regarding the above positions, or are interested in Chairing a further subcommittee not listed above, please email the current EFDF at efdfb_at_efdf.org
DEADLINE FOR MANIFESTOS IS MONDAY 3 SEPTEMBER 2007.
Manifestos should include:
Your name / Country / Team / Why you want to run / What experience you can bring / Attach a photo
Please send Manifestos to efdfb_at_efdf.org
National Federations & European Country representatives are this year going to all be granted a vote each for these positions. Voting will start in early September.

The current EFDF hosted a meeting at the European Ultimate Championships in Southampton to run through the structure with European National Federations and National representatives. This is going to be a trial year for the structure proposed, which is why it is crucial that we get YOU on board to help make this a successful and efficiently run organisation.
(Please note that the new EUF will take on all the roles and responsibilities the current EFDF run regarding Ultimate in Europe. The EFDF will then become an umbrella organisation for the chairpeople of all disc sports in Europe to coordinate with each other.)
Stand up and be accountable! Now's your chance to help build a strong Ultimate Federation catered to your European Ultimate needs.
All the best,
Alia Ayub
on behalf of the EFDF
At the recent EFDF European Ultimate Championships 2007 in Southampton a complaint of the Austrian Junior Open team concerning their semi-final game against the GB Junior Open team was dealt with by the Tournament Rules Group (TRG).
EFDF has prepared a case summary regarding the decision taken by the TRG.

Email to all European Flying Disc associations
Dear European flying disc associations,
on 8th March, 2007, WFDF released an updated version of the Ultimate rules and they will be in effect for all WFDF Ultimate events starting with April 1st, 2007.
EFDF has always used the WFDF version of Ultimate rules for outdoor Ultimate. Using a different (e.g. older) set of rules obviously would not make sense.
Although this seemed so obvious, the EFDF Board yesterday has formally agreed to adopt the new rules for Ultimate play and is announcing today, that:
The 2007 WFDF Rules of Ultimate will become effective on April 1st, 2007, for all EFDF Ultimate tournaments.
This will effect the EUCS tournaments (EUCR and EUCF) and also the EUC 2007 in Southampton. Just like WFDF, we would like to encourage European associations and players to adopt the new set of rules for national play, as well. The WFDF Ultimate Rules Committee is always looking for feedback about the rules and plans to incorporate necessary updates for 2008. If Europe would continue to play with the old set of rules one year of rules development would be lost.
There is material which covers the changes as well as a "Pocket Edition" on the web (see below). I am confident that this will provide for a smooth transition despite the short time between WFDF's final release and the rules becoming effective.
You can find the rules on WFDF's 2007 Ultimate Rules web page:
http://www.wfdf.org/index.php?page=rules/2007_wfdf_ultimate_rules.htm
See the announcement of the rules and a short list of the changes here:

New WFDF Ultimate Rules for 2007
The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) has released an update of the WFDF Rules of Ultimate on 8. March 2007 (see the email from the Chair of the WFDF Ultimate Committee below). These rules will become effective on 1 April 2007.
The WFDF Rules Group has been working hard on this update and continues to do so to eventually achieve the goal to unify the WFDF rules and UPA rules. This is a first and large step into that direction.
EFDF has always adopted the WFDF Ultimate rules and will do so for these rules.
Therefore, effective on 1. April 2007, the new WFDF Ultimate rules will be used for EFDF Ultimate tournaments.
Accompanying the initial announcement was a PDF version of the rules with changes highlighted in red. It is not available at the WFDF site, but you can still download this version from the EFDF site. Another PDF file on the WFDF site condenses the entire set of rules on just two pages ("Pocket Version"). It originated from the UKUA and is also available there.
Please also note the list of changes below.

E-Mail from Rü Veitl, WFDF Ultimate Committee Chair:
The new WFDF Ultimate Rules (Version 2007) is finally competed and approved! It will be effective on April 1, 2004 for all WFDF sanctioned tournaments. We would like to ask all our members to implement these rules as quickly as possible. For the past year a group of 10-20 players have worked on the revision of the current WFDF Ultimate Rules. Our task is to come to a convergence of the UPA and the WFDF rules to eventually achieve one set of Ultimate Rules worldwide. From now on an updated rule set shall be published every year on January first. In general there are only few actual rule changes. The focus of this revision was to make current rules more clear, reduce the repetition of rules and create a better format. Most sections have been revised but the end result is the same rules, but stated in a better way. Substantial changes in the document are highlighted by using red letters. Major changes are: As players from all over the world were involved in creating and editing the rules we hope that there will be great acceptance of these new rules. Please encourage your members to learn these new rules. Comments are welcome as the 2007 Ultimate Rules Committee is already active in discussing further issues to create the 2008 version of the rules. Now that the rules have been finalized, the Ultimate Rules Committee will work on a set/collection of scenarios and explanations. If you are unclear about a situation, please let me kno so that we can explain and add the situation to our collection. Regards Rue Veitl WFDF Ultimate Committee Chair |
